Republic of Ireland have used an early ?get out of jail card? in their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier tonight.
Giovanni Trapattoni?s men fell behind to lowly Kazakhstan in the 37th minute when Kairat Nurdauletov opened the scoring for the home side in Astana but managed to score two very late goals to secure a 2-1 win.
LA Galaxy ace Robbie Keane converted from the penalty spot in the 88th minute before Wolves striker Kevin Doyle gave Ireland ? ranked 116 places above Kazakhstan ? victory in the final few seconds.
The win allows the Irish to kick-off their Group C campaign with maximum points but they will have to wait until October 12 for their next outing against Germany in Dublin whilst Kazakhstan will look to atone for an unlucky result when they head to Sweden on Tuesday.
