How will the democratization of mobile broadband impact our lives; what are the possibilities?

Mobile Monday, or MoMo, is a global network of mobile industry professionals, visionaries, developers and entrepreneurs, in over 100 cities around the world. Each city chapter discusses issues specific to the local needs in monthly forums; given the global nature of the mobile industry there is an exchange of ideas and speakers from around the world.

"The future is already here ? it's just not evenly distributed"

In our increasingly connected world broadband Internet offers new ways of working, tools that enable us to Work from home, video conferencing, cloud based storage and backup.? How will images and sounds delivered to us by faster Internet stimulate our minds and hearts; IPTV, streaming movies, online multi-player gaming, mobile education, health agriculture and mobile broadband as a key business enabler improve the quality of our lives?

Our mobile phones have become a key social object capable of empowering us to multitask.? Mobiles influence our patterns of behaviour, consumption, in all-pervasive ways.? Mobile phones rather than desktop computers is how most Ugandans access Internet; mobility, touch-screen devices have revolutionized how we find and view content, how we get things done, and act as a motor for change and innovation.? What are the prospects for ubiquitous broadband; what are the obstacles and how can we overcome them?

Maureen Agena ? Chair - Communications Consultant

Maureen Agena is a trained citizen Journalist and communications consultant with 4 years experience in ICT4D. Maureen has worked with UNFPA Uganda Country office as an online communications consultant, a Program Manager with Text to Change and for Women of Uganda Network(WOUGNET) for 3 years as an Information & Communications Officer. She holds an Msc in Information Systems and a Bsc in Information Technology Maureen was recipient of Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship and an ARDYIS 2010 EastAfrican award winner. She is passionate about ICT4D, mobile technology and Gender issues in Technology.

Elijah Kitaka - Moderator - Business Developer, Google Uganda

Elijah currently works as a Business Developer at Google, based in Uganda. He has done Google partnerships in 5 Sub-Saharan Africa countries. Elijah is a regular speaker at Google's g|days across Africa and has presided over g|days in Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Ghana. Prior to Google, Elijah spent 3 years in banking and 7 years as lead software developer at True African, a company he founded in his first year at university. Elijah is also the creator and 9-year host of the Jazz Evenings radio show on Radio One FM 90 in Kampala. He holds a Bsc. Computer Science.

Kai Uwe Wulff - Access Field Development Director at Google - Keynote

Kai's passion is to get everybody in the world connected and believes that Broadband is when you can do what you want and what you need online without restrictions . As Access Field Development Director Google, Kai is exploring opportunities and implementing projects that will help Google to fulfill the Google Mission. Kai Wulff, is a young but seasoned specialist in lateral thinking and excellent company structures with over 25 years of experience in industries ranging from IT and Telecommunications to Hospitality and Tourism, among others. He has a proven record of turning around business and taking startups to profitability within short spans of a few years as he has done at African Safari Club and Kenya Data Networks. Dr Wulff?s academic background includes a PhD in Economics with specialization in Marketing and Business Administration from the University of St Gallen (Switzerland) and a BA in Economic Science from University of Bunderwehr (Germany). Dr Wulff is passionate about thinking out of the box, always challenging the norms of business thinking and helping matrix based team structures within organizations to achieve results within the market conditions in Africa.

Ernst Fonternel - Chief Marketing Officer MTN Uganda

Where is the future of telecom heading to and what will it take for telecom operators to play a relevant role in it?

Ernst Fonternel recently joined MTN Uganda as the new Chief Marketing Officer. He has more than 13 years working experience in Marketing Strategy, services and products development. He was the General Manager for Strategic Marketing at MTN South Africa and has prior to moving to MTN Uganda, been integral in the turn-around of the MTN Zambia operation. With alot of passion.

Babak Fakhamzadeh - Developer Entrepreneur

D?rive app: An award winning web-based mobile app for exploring your own urban environment

Babak Fakhamzadeh was working in ICT4D (2001) before it had a name, never really left it, and knows how to throw together a pretty mean combination of PHP, HTML5, CSS and jQuery. He designed a method to geotag Flickr photos (2006) before Flickr was doing it, brought photomarathons to Africa (2007) and won the Highway Africa new media award (2007) with Ismail Farouk. Work of his was selected to represent Uganda at the World Summit Award, twice (2011, 2012), winning the global competition in 2012 with Eduardo Cachucho. Twice, he made it to the Guinness book of records (1994, 2011). He's had both joint (2007) and solo (2011) photography exhibitions and created what was probably the first mobile phone based city tour (2004) as well as what probably was the first QR-code assisted smartphone-based city tour (2009).

After graduating with a MSc. in mathematics (1997), he worked on four continents, in over a dozen countries, first at one of the world's largest blue chip companies, later as his own boss.

Mark Pritchard - Head of Sales and Marketing, Smile Communications

Mark is a seasoned international executive with over 20 years? experience living and working in multiple countries in Africa (Cote D?Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritius, Morocco, Senegal and for the past three years in Uganda) in both the FMCG and Communications industries. Currently Mark is the Head of Sales and Marketing at Smile Communications (U) Ltd and is helping to bring about an internet revolution in Uganda through 4G LTE. Visionary, strategic yet at the same time very hands-on, Mark is committed to bringing about a change to people?s lives through the application of new technologies to individuals, businesses and communities alike.
