Moroccan middle-distance runner, Mariem Alaoui Selsouli, has been reportedly tested positive and faces a lifetime ban from participating in international competitions. According to the French sport newspaper, L?Equipe, Selsouli?s urine sample from Paris was tested positive for the diuretic flurosemide. Diuretics conceal the presence of performance-enhancing drugs by helping to flush them from the body through increased urination. By using it to this effect, an athlete could use Xipamide to help remove traces of banned substances prior to a doping control.

The 28-year-old, who was a gold medal contender in both the 1500m and 5000m in the upcoming Olympics to be held in London, is facing her second offense, which could cause her to be removed from sport for life. Her first Anti-Doping suspension was in the summer of 2009 in Rabat, Morocco and was banned from August 22, 2009 to August 21, 2011.

She returned to the truck and filed late last summer and won in Rieti, followed by a 1500m PB of 4:00.77 in just her second race back. Her second positive test came from this month?s competition in Paris Diamond League meeting on July 6, 2012. She is now running the risk of being banned from the Summer Olympics 2012 in London. Her time in Paris was the fastest time this year, but it looks like that record will not stand for long.
